Marin County and the Marin Peninsula, near San Francisco, California

The Marin Peninsula, the southern part of Marin County, is the northern of the two peninsulas which nearly enclose San Francisco Bay.

Muir Woods National Monument and Mount Tamalpais are both located on the southern part of the Marin Peninsula, as is one section of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. The small tourist towns of Sausalito and Tiburon are on the eastern (bay) side of Marin peninsula. The passenger ferry which runs from Tiburon across the bay to the city of San Francisco is a very convenient option if you don't want the hassle of driving and parking in the city itself while sightseeing, should you not be part of a group and miss out on the convenience group travel brings.

Driving south on US101, the road which runs west from the exit immediately before the Golden Gate Bridge leads to an excellent viewpoint. However, this exit is very easy to miss if you don't know the area, so instruct your bus driver to look out....
