Highest Through Road in North America

 

The Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado. This is a paved road.

Highest Paved Road in North America

The Mount Evans Byway in Colorado, which runs for twenty-seven miles from Idaho Springs (on I-70/US6 west of Denver) to the summit of Mount Evans. We have not yet explored this road.

Highest Road in North America

The toll road which runs to the summit of Pikes Peak in Colorado. I think that this is an unpaved road.

All three of these roads are closed in winter.

It should be remembered that these are the highest roads in each category in terms of absolute height above sea level, not relative height above the neighbouring valleys.
