By the time that Interstate 70 runs through its valley, the Colorado is already a considerable river.
The Colorado runs in a southwesterly direction through the canyonlands of southeastern Utah before passing through the Grand Canyon in northern Arizona.
The river then forms the border between Arizona and Nevada, where it passes through the Hoover Dam (also called the Boulder Dam).
Then the Colorado runs south, forming the border between Arizona and California before a brief run through Mexico and finally out into the Gulf of California.
